Happy Thanksgiving! I was talking with a friend recently, and the conversation was about GPS systems. He said he would never own one. He felt that it was important to know how to read a map, and that people shouldn't need to rely upon technology to get from here to there.
I started to wonder whether the conversation might have been that much different for those early settlers who were accustomed to using a compass or a sextant to navigate - when the subject of printed road maps came up...
Changes in technology can have a significant impact on our lives. It wasn't that many years ago that the simplest means to settle a debt or pay a bill was to pay in cash or to write a paper check. Now, we can use our Debit card, write an electronic check, or send an electronic wire. Not only has the process become easier and faster, it is also safer and much more secure.
If you haven't made the leap from cash and checks to electronic payments, stop by one of our branches and talk with our staff. They'd be happy to demonstrate how the different products work so that you are comfortable using them.
I can read a map, but I love my GPS. It's one less thing to think about as I focus on my destination. As always, we're interested in your thoughts. Give us a call or click here.

Q. Senator Dodd just introduced a bill to completely overhaul the bank regulatory structure. Why?
A. This is yet another situation where Congress is trying to throw a complex solution at a simple problem. You would never run your business or household by throwing away an expensive system only to replace it with another system that you need to build from scratch - especially if you were strapped for cash. The regulatory system could use a tune-up, not a complete overhall. They need to focus on more pressing isues, such as the large banks that pose such a systemic risk to our financial system.
