April is Community Banking Month
For 2009, I think this takes on an even more significant meaning than in year's past - now that Fed Chairman Bernanke has indicated that America's Community banks are leading the charge to economic recovery.
At MainStreet, we not only take care of the financial needs of the businesses, professionals and individuals in our market, our team is also very socially responsible. As in past years, we're reaching out to several area schools to assist in teaching financial literacy to the youth in our communities. And it doesn't stop there. We are involved in programs to feed the hungry and house the homeless. We coach T-ball and we lead Scouts. In short, we live in the communities we serve. And we are happy and proud to do so.
Join us on Saturday April 25th from 9:00 a.m.until Noon on the patio in Herndon (727 Elden Street) for a celebration of community banking. We are hosting a craft fair and light breakfast. Hand-made jewelry and other locally made crafts will be on display and available for purchase.
The cornerstone of community banking is built on relationships - we pride ourselves in being able to understand the needs of our neighbors and provide innovative and customized deposit and lending solutions to those who choose to bank with us. People make the difference! We look forward to seeing you on the 25th.
As always, we're interested in your thoughts. Give us a call or click here: feedback@mstreetbank.com
Meet MainStreet: Melissa Brown
As the Assistant Branch Manager in Herndon, Melissa Brown takes great pride in helping her customers.
Melissa enjoys being able to offer her customers competitive and innovative products that help them achieve their goals. “I think our 12 month no-penalty CD is one of the best products in the market for our customers,” says Melissa. ”The fact they we allow our customers to deposit additional cash to this term CD helps our customers lock in rates, even in an environment where CD rates might be falling. I also think that our free checking account, along with our easy to use on-line banking product can’t be beat. My customers love it.”
Melissa is always looking for new ways to learn more about her customers, so that she can ensure that they are getting the most from their banking relationship. To talk with Melissa about any of these products and services or any others offered at MainStreet Bank, stop by our Herndon Branch, call her at (703) 481-4567, or contact her by email at mbrown@mstreetbank.com
Creative Solutions
Online bill payment is one of those solutions that once you use it, you wonder how you ever lived without it.
MainStreet's online bill payment system is extremely simple to use, and very secure - in fact, with our multifactor authentication and SSL protection, our online system is safer than the U.S. Mail - and you don't pay for postage!
Once you've set up your "Payees", you'll find that it will actually take you more time to physically open your bills than it does to pay them. And, you can pay your bills whenever you want to - because you choose the date you want each payment to be sent. You can even set payments up to recur automatically.
Some customers have said that other online bill payment systems actually take the money out of their account on the date they set up the payment. Our system is much better than that. The funds do not come out of your account until the item is presented to us - just as if you had written a check.Call us to learn more about our online bill payment system. We'll be glad to help you set it up today.

MainStreet Answers
Q. What is the difference between a Community bank and a large bank?
A. There are so many differences. Perhaps the greatest difference starts at the top - Community banks' board of directors are made up of local citizens who want to advance the interests of the towns and cities where they live and where the bank does business.
On the other end of the spectrum, you'll find that the service fee schedule for community banks is much lower than for large banks - in many instances community banks don't charge for services such as basic checking.
